Photography & Imaging II

H82.0002   Studio   4 Credits

This is the second course in the Photography and Imaging sequence for majors. Concepts from Photography & Imaging I are reinforced through further exploration of what it means to be an image-maker: making, experimenting, viewing, reading, writing, keeping a journal, showing, and engaging in critique with peers. Color theory in the analog and digital realms will be the primary technical focus of the course. Historical references and the range of image-making practice using color in photo-based image making will also be explored. Traditional color printing will be taught, and there will be further instruction in Photoshop, scanning, and digital printing. Approximately eight hours of lab work are done weekly outside of class time—schedules are arranged by students. A range of issues will be introduced including light and color, autobiography and identity, montage, constructing imaginary landscapes, and working on documentaries. Students will work on projects of their own choosing in the latter half of the semester.
